HUNDREDS RAISED FOR MACMILLAN BY G F TOMLINSON

Almost £500 has been generously donated to Macmillan Cancer Support by G F Tomlinson thanks to a fundraising event which included the exclusive auction of a signed Chesterfield t-shirt and annual coffee morning.

A cheque was presented to Gini Smith from Macmillan Cancer Support today (12 January) by Andy Sewards from G F Tomlinson, which has a long history of supporting charities.

The staff auctioned the one-off Chesterfield Football Club shirt (signed by the team) for an impressive £250 at the annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event last year.

A further £215.65 was raised from the sale of sausage and bacon cobs, a variety of cakes and a game of ‘guess how many spots on the cake’ as employees raised much-needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Andy Sewards, managing director at G F Tomlinson, said: “At G F Tomlinson we are committed to supporting the local community and this event is a great example of the fundraising efforts that our team get involved in. Everyone came together to pull off a great coffee morning with a difference to help out a fantastic cause.”

Founded in 1911, Macmillan’s mission is to support cancer patients and their families. Every year the Macmillan Coffee Morning encourages individuals, communities and businesses to get together for a cup of tea and cake in exchange for donations to the charity.

Gini Smith at Macmillan, said “We want to thank the staff at G F Tomlinson for showing their support and raising a significant amount of money. This has contributed to our total of over £21 million, which was raised throughout the country. We feel so lucky that our organisation is celebrated all over the country and is so publically recognised.”

Andy added: “We would like to thank Colwick construction recruitment company Net Temps for bidding on and winning the Chesterfield Football Club shirt, thanks to their generosity we have more than doubled our fundraising total.”

The Macmillan event was just the latest charity fundraising effort by G F Tomlinson – the company has lent its support to a number of charitable causes over the years.

Last year the company organised a golf day and auction featuring a pair of signed gloves donated by boxer Carl Froch, raising £1,800 for various charities.

The company has also sponsored the Prostate Cancer Support Association and The Graham Fulford Charitable Trust awareness event, and every year it supports the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline by running free transport for the charity’s annual respite trip.
