Work has started on a massive £6 million distribution depot at a Derbyshire logistics and warehousing firm which could eventually created up to 50 new jobs.
ATL Warehousing and Distribution is building the 190,000 sq ft centre at its 25-acre site in Woodyard Lane, Foston. The family-run business is investing in the site after experiencing a number of years of “organic growth”. Now, with its latest investment, it hopes to move sales up another gear.
Work on the new building, which will provide storage for 22,000 pallets of goods, is expected to be completed by the end of September. The main contractor building the hub is Little Eaton-based G F Tomlinson.
ATL, which has a fleet of 90 vehicles, has been based at Foston since 2002, after moving from Burton. At the time of the move, the company, which is run by joint managing directors brothers Pete and Joey Ascott, employed 15 people. Today, it has a workforce of around 200 people.
The company’s main customers are in the automotive and food sectors – but with its new facility, ATL hopes to grow its client-base further. Joey said: “These plans have been about two years in the making and we’re delighted that building work has now started. This will be a state-of-the-art distribution hub, which will help us meet our future growth plans.”
