Building better bodies and minds – G F Tomlinson participates in healthy workplace scheme

G F Tomlinson is putting the health and wellbeing of its work force first having participated in Derbyshire County Council’s Healthy Workplaces scheme.

Offering employees the opportunity to undergo a free health assessment, the optional ‘employee MOT’ assesses weight, BMI, blood pressure as well as other general physical and mental health matters.

Carried out by Derbyshire County Council’s Live Life Better team, the scheme saw trained members of staff visit G F Tomlinson’s Alfreton Road office to conduct the health checks for 90 of the company’s employees.

Chris Flint director and general manager at G F Tomlinson, said: “Our employees are our most important asset and we take their health and wellbeing very seriously. Working with Derbyshire County Council to offer these health checks within the workplace is part of our programme of ongoing support to each of our employees.

“We are fortunate to have access to this important, local service which not only provides the initial assessment but also offers continued support and advice to our employees who all live locally.”

The company has a long-established relationship with Derbyshire County Council and will be continuing to encourage staff to take up the offer of free services through the Council to help improve their health and well-being.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Communities Councillor Carol Hart said: “We are pleased to be working with a wide range of local businesses and organisations including G F Tomlinson to help improve employee health and wellbeing through our Healthy Workplaces scheme.

“Our team also offer stop smoking support, help getting active and other health and wellbeing advice.

“A healthy, energised and motivated team can lead to better business performance and a better working environment for everyone. Companies who invest in workplace wellbeing will see the difference it makes to both individual staff members and the organisation as a whole.”

Membership of Healthy Workplaces Derbyshire is free to all workplaces within Derbyshire County Council boundaries.
