Design & Build
Restoration of the Bestwood Winding Engine House, a Grade II Listed building and a scheduled ancient monument within Bestwood Country Park.
This project involved the renovation and refurbishment of buildings. Timber roof beams, roof and brickwork were repaired to their former glory.
The works incorporated the restoration of the steel headstocks.
Using the skills and expertise of conservation craftsmen, we undertook brick replacement in the Engine House and Dynamo House, replacing stone on the Engine House, cleaning internal walls of Dynamo House using doff and chemical cleaning systems, internal lime plastering to the Engine House, restoration of internal lime render moulded skirting, replacing cast iron gutters, sourcing and replacing decorative brick work on the eaves of the Dynamo House.
Contract Period: 51 weeks
The objective of the restoration was to preserve the site as an excellent example of Nottinghamshire mining heritage that could be enjoyed by future generations to come.
“G F Tomlinson solved a major problem on this scheme which involved the sourcing of the head stock. The old and new were seamless and we are very impressed with the quality.”
Denzel Davey, Nottinghamshire County Council
