Design & Build

Design and construction of a new 1FE first school to accommodate 150 primary and 26 nursery places. It is the first school to be completed as part of a wider plan by Staffordshire County Council to expand first school provision in Uttoxeter in response to new housing developments in the area.

The project was delivered through the Staffordshire County Council Framework and was designed, and project managed by Entrust.

The single storey steel frame building which features cladding, brickwork and render is equipped with a nursery, several classrooms, multi-use hall and catering space. Externally an outdoor sports pitch, play areas and car parking is included, along with 6 vehicle electric charging points.

Delivered within a confined residential area and adjacent to the house builder entrance, we formed a new access/egress haulage road to the rear of the site for operative parking, deliveries and visitors to avoid congestion and disruption. Secure fencing around the site perimeter ensured full segregation of construction works, with deliveries carefully scheduled via our on-line booking system to avoid congestion on the surrounding roads and peak times for the local community. Regular newsletters were issued to residents to keep them informed of progress and planned works.

The school is an academy within the Uttoxeter Learning Trust and has been designed and constructed to be expandable for up to 210 places in the future.

Whilst on site, G F Tomlinson provided a total of £317,142 social value added contribution, comprising 68 hours of work experience and 45 apprentice weeks spent on site. We also recycled 100% of our construction waste, and 91% of project spend was within 40 miles of site, contributing positively to the local environment and the national carbon net-zero agenda.
