Building firm’s turnover up to £65m

A DERBY construction firm has revealed that its turnover almost doubled this year, paving the way for the hiring of another seven apprentices.

GF Tomlinson raked in £65 million in the first half of 2015, compared with £36 million in the same period last year.

The firm said in a trading statement that profits had risen in line with the increase in turnover and that it was confident its growth would continue at the same rate throughout the rest of the year.

Schemes GF Tomlinson has worked on this year include the new £11.8 million Innovation Centre which will be the flagship building at Derby’s Infinity Park.

The centre will be home to high-tech engineering companies wanting to grow their presence in the transport industry.

Further GF Tomlinson projects include a “heart of the campus” development at Nottingham Trent University, which will provide state-of-the-art facilities and a teaching building accommodating more than 800 students – and a new £10.8 million sports centre at the University of Derby.

GF Tomlinson’s group chairman, Barry Sewards, said: “The first part of 2015 has been extremely positive for the company and we are fully expecting this success to continue for the rest of the year.

“Following this, we already have a strong order book for 2016 so we are expecting to be able to consolidate our growth well into the future.

“We are performing very well across all of the sectors in which we operate and working across many exciting projects across the Midlands and beyond.

“The company is achieving an excellent level of repeat business as well as attracting new clients from both the public and private sectors.

“Our staff has worked tremendously hard.”
