Design & Build
Design and construction of a new two storey 1FE Primary School delivered through the Staffordshire County Council Framework and project managed by Entrust.
The school provides 210 primary and 26 nursery places to the local area and comprises nine classrooms, a library, new catering spaces, indoor sports hall, as well as an outdoor play area. We have also provided a new multi-use games area pitch on site.
The building has been constructed with consideration for proposed expansion to 2FE in the future, taking the school’s capacity up to 420 primary and 52 nursery places in total, meeting the increasing need for primary school places in the region created by the various new housing developments in the area.
The striking blue and white stripe facade represent the flight path of the airfield which was situated on the site many years ago.
The project was constructed adjacent to a new 750-home housing development with only one access and egress route shared with the housing contractor. We liaised closely with the housing contractor on a regular basis to manage vehicular access and planned deliveries to ensure minimal disruption to both sites and the neighbouring residents.
During the project, we hosted an ‘Open Doors’ Interactive Workshop which was designed to inspire local young people by making them aware of the employment opportunities that were available to them in the local area. Students worked in teams to assist the Site Manager in inspecting any snags, recording these and identifying any areas in need of rectification.
Whilst on site, G F Tomlinson provided a total of £483,404 in social value added contribution, comprising 130 hours of supporting young people into work, 94 hours of work experience and 115 apprentice weeks spent on site. We also recycled 98% of our construction waste, contributing positively to the local environment and the national carbon net-zero agenda.
“As our first primary free school, Fradley Park has been a key priority for the Trust, and we have been supported extremely well by Staffordshire County Council, Entrust, the Department for Education and G F Tomlinson. Our close working relationship has played no small part in enabling us to reach this milestone so effectively, and for us to be receiving a truly wonderful new school that will grow with its local communities for generations.”
