Hallam Primary School is transformed to welcome more than 200 pupils

Eight new classrooms have been added at Hallam Primary School in Sheffield to accommodate more than 200 additional pupils, as part of the school’s transformation in readiness for the new term.

This much needed project has been funded and delivered by Sheffield City Council who appointed G F Tomlinson to carry out the construction work.

In addition to a new eight classroom extension there has been the creation of a state-of-the-art multi-use games area. The scheme also incorporates significant improvements to the existing building to improve the overall learning environment, which is safe and comfortable for children.

Supporting Sheffield City Council’s duty to respond to population growth by increasing pupil numbers in the south west of Sheffield, head teacher at Hallam Primary School, Chris Stewart said: “We are delighted to be starting the new school year in a brand new building.

“The new facilities will enable the school to accommodate 210 more pupils in total than what was previously possible.”

“I am so grateful for the wonderful team of staff from the school, council and Tomlinson’s who have been working so hard to make sure we were ready in time to open our doors.”

G F Tomlinson worked in collaboration with the school throughout the project to provide the children with opportunities at each stage of the build, to learn about the construction industry.

Contracts Manager for G F Tomlinson, Andy Kay, said: “At G F Tomlinson we pride ourselves on our ability to work within live educational environments, without disrupting the day-to-day operations of the school

“The Hallam Primary School project is a typical example of the works we undertake and early engagement with the school was paramount to providing them with a facility that meets both their needs and expectations.

“Involving both pupils and staff in construction related activities and tours of the site are two of the best ways to include them in the process, which provides them with their own sense of ownership towards the new facilities.”
