LOCAL COUNCILLORS RAISE THE ROOF AT VILLAGE HUB

MEMBERS from Scraptoft Parish Council helped to secure the final section of roofing on the village’s new community hub as the project’s construction reached mid-point this week.

G F Tomlinson hosted a special event onsite (11 July) to mark the project’s progress to date and give council members, architects EKV Design and Scape Group a behind the scenes tour and to see how works have been progressing.

Once complete in autumn, the hub will provide much-needed facilities for the growing local community including a new hall for community activities and events, changing rooms and office space.

The project, which started on site in March, is quickly taking shape; the steel frame has been erected and roofing and masonry works are almost complete.

Peter Elliott, chairman for the Scraptoft Parish Council said: “This scheme has been around five years in the making, so to see it coming to life now is very exciting.

“Our village has doubled in size in the last six years, so these facilities are very much needed to help bring residents in the village together. The hub will be run by the parish council’s steering group and will be open for local residents to use for any variety of events and activities.

“G F Tomlinson has been a great help; they’ve worked with the parish council all the way through this project to ensure that the hub meets our needs, as well as our budget. Without them we wouldn’t have these fantastic facilities taking shape.

“Our village is only going to continue growing in the coming years, and this hub will have a positive effect on the community for many years to come.”

Craig Stopper, framework manager from G F Tomlinson said: “We’re proud to be involved with this project, which will provide improved facilities for the local community.

“This event marks the mid-point of the project and we’re delighted to celebrate this milestone with the Parish Council; we’re on track to complete the project by Autumn as planned.”

“Throughout this process, we have worked closely with the council and members of the community to understand their requirements and deliver a scheme that will meet their needs as well as leaving a positive legacy for future generations of Scraptoft.”

The project was procured through the empa framework, which is managed by Scape Group, a public-sector procurement specialist.

Ian Towlson, regional frameworks manager for Scape Procure said: “Facilities such as these are vital to growing communities, and it’s great to see this scheme taking shape so quickly.

“By engaging with the local community, G F Tomlinson has ensured that this scheme will meet their needs, and is considerate of budget and time constraints.

“This is a great example of how our framework helps public sector organisations get projects off the ground with support from accredited contractors, and delivering a lasting impact for the local community.”
