Design & Build
This project was procured as a direct award contract through the Scape Framework and involved the refurbishment of Shepshed fire station to provide a specialist training facility.
The building is a shared facility with Leicestershire Police and the project included demolition works to the existing walls within the fire station and the reconfiguration of the internal areas providing a new PPE room, gymnasium, shower facilities and disabled toilets on the ground floor.
As part of the works, a single room was created on the ground floor for the police force to use as a base.
The first floor provides the Fire and Rescue Service and Leicestershire Police with a state-of-the-art interactive training room and offices for staff from both ‘Blue Light’ services from all over Leicestershire and Rutland.
There is also provision for the building to be used by other fire authorities, as well as police authorities, nationally. The remainder of the building provides garage space for one appliance and during the works, the station remained fully operational throughout construction.
Councillor Christine Radford, Vice Chair for Leicestershire Fire Authority, said: “I was highly impressed with the new facility. This helps to safeguard the future of Shepshed Fire Station. The refurbished station will enhance our ability to deliver an effective fire and rescue service to the surrounding area.”
