Nottingham City Council, in partnership with Nottinghamshire Police, has refurbished and extended the previous Sneinton Police Station building, in order to provide a modern and accessible facility for the local community.
Key Features:
Extensive refurbishment and new build
Delivering a high quality finish
Busy town centre location
Close liaison with the Council to ensure their vision was met
Local supply chain opportunities maximised
Work experience placements throughout the project
The new building library includes a garden area outside for visitors to the library and a workstation area for 13 computers. The police station has been extended to include two additional interview rooms and a refurbished canteen. There are 7 car parking spaces for visitors with 7 secure car parking spaces at the rear for the Police Station, these are behind a reinforced automatic gate.
A rear car park area was replaced with a garden area with outdoor seating for visitors to the library.
The new centre has upped its green credentials by having solar panels installed on the roof top. The Dales Centre will be generating its own free and green electricity and will expect to save over £1,000 a year and its electricity bill and reduce its CO2 emissions by over four tonnes per year.
This renewable energy project is part of the council’s broader delivery programme to install renewable energy infrastructure across its sites to simultaneously tackle climate change and reduce operating costs.
“It’s great news that that this fantastic new library is opening, offering the people of the Dales the 21st century facilities they deserve. Customers will enjoy improved modern facilities in the new building, which will be a positive addition to the local community.
As we’ve seen with other new libraries, we expect that this will encourage more people from Sneinton and Bakersfield to make the most of their local library.”
Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Councillor Dave Trimble
