Tribute to Barry Sewards (1937 – 2022)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our former Chairman Barry Sewards, who passed away peacefully on Sunday 18^th December 2022.

Barry was well known in the local Construction Industry having dedicated 60 years to the business, joining the Company in 1958 and working alongside members of the Tomlinson family, before becoming Managing Director in the 1970’s. In 1992 he became Chairman of the subsidiary companies.

In 1998 Barry was appointed Chairman of the Group and continued to steer the Company to grow and become one of the most successful and well respected, family-owned Construction Companies in the Midlands.

Andrew Sewards our current Chairman and Barry’s son joined the Company in 1995 and for 23 years worked closely alongside his Father, forming a formidable partnership. They continued working together to achieve the ongoing success of G F Tomlinson.

The legacy initiated by Barry will continue to grow well into the future, due to the values and vision he instilled in the business through his great leadership.

Rest in Peace

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday 27^th January 2023 in Derby Cathedral, Iron Gate, Derby DE1 3GP at 2.00 pm to reflect and give thanks for his life and service.

The wake will be held at the Granary Loft accessed via the Dovecote Restaurant at Morley Hayes, Main Road, Morley, Ilkeston DE7 6DG
